Day Program Services

The Day Program at Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs is dedicated to empowering adults with disabilities to connect with peers, build skills, and participate fully in their community. Our programs provide a welcoming space for adults 18 and older, offering a wide range of opportunities to grow, learn, and prepare for greater independence.

Day Program Services include:

Person-Centered Support

Every participant has a personalized plan, developed in collaboration with our experienced team and their family, focused on their aspirations and support needs. We aim to maximize independence, celebrate progress, and ensure each individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Access and Funding

Most services are covered through Medicaid waivers or state-funded community supports. Private pay options are available, offering a cost-effective alternative to other care arrangements.

At Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, we are committed to helping each person discover their abilities, achieve valued goals, and enjoy active, meaningful lives—at home, on the job, and in the community.

Day Activities

Engaging group and individual activities are designed to enhance social connections, stimulate creativity, and foster personal growth. From art and music sessions to fitness, games, and outings, each person has opportunities to explore interests and develop meaningful relationships in a safe, supportive setting.

Drum Therapy with Sacred Heart Beats

Sacred Heart Beats visits each Wednesday for drum therapy. Our clients love expressing themselves through music!

Community Engagement

Through partnerships with local organizations, our participants take an active part in community life—delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering at the animal shelter, supporting local food banks, attending community events, and more. These experiences help individuals strengthen advocacy, communication, and life skills while making a positive impact in their community.

Career Preparation

Career Preparation services build work readiness and life skills through training in attendance, workplace routines, task completion, safety, self-advocacy, and problem-solving. Programming is individualized, from learning to navigate transportation to mastering personal goals such as obtaining a driver’s license, advancing educational attainment, or building daily living skills.

Employment Services

We provide a pathway to competitive and supported employment based on each person’s strengths and interests.

Group Employment (Enclave): Participants work as part of a team at local businesses, supported on-site by our staff.

Individual Employment: Supported job placements in the community, offering tailored coaching and ongoing support aimed at sustainable, meaningful work.

Natalie and Cindy work in the Snack Shack and deliver food and drinks throughout the day.

They know how much to charge for each item, collect and count the money, and make change.

We love that they provide this service to us and they love that it is a job that pays them in preparation for a customer service role!
