Helpful Resources:
At every step, our team is here to help you access the supports and opportunities you need to thrive.
Step 1: Determine Eligibility Through the State
All applicants must first be assessed and approved by the Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) within the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
OIDD determines eligibility in these categories:
- Intellectual Disability
- Related Disability
- High-Risk Infant
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Head Injury
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Similar Disability
To qualify for OIDD services, you must live in South Carolina and be confirmed as meeting criteria for at least one of the above categories.
Step 2: Apply for Services and Select a Case Manager
Apply by calling the OIDD intake line at 1-800-289-7012, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM.
Be ready to provide:
- Applicant’s full name, birth date, address, Social Security number, and Medicaid number (if applicable)
- General information about residency and disability
- Choice of three Intake Service Providers (options will be read to you; your Intake Provider will help guide you through the eligibility process and connect you with a Case Manager if you do not have one)
Your Intake Provider or Autism Eligibility Coordinator will reach out within two weeks to collect medical and educational records. Once all records are submitted, OIDD will notify you in writing about eligibility status.
Step 3: Connect With Your Case Manager
A dedicated Case Manager—your guide and advocate—will assist you in identifying supports to fit your needs, complete person-centered planning, and help you navigate available programs.
Step 4: Begin Services With PCBDSN
After being approved and connected with a Case Manager, you’ll collaborate on a plan to enroll in residential, day, or employment services that reflect your goals and preferences.
